About Karjat

Karjat, a hill station halfway between Pune and Mumbai, is well known for its picturesque landscape, which is reflected in its captivating hills and lush, well-kept gardens. Karjat is a great place to visit for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation. It offers something for everyone, from history buffs and nature lovers to adventure seekers.

Architecture

The majestic Kondeshwar Temple is a place of worship for Lord Shiva. The temple was built in the 11th century and is known for its intricate carvings. Its setting amidst the verdant hills is mouthwatering, but its old Hemadpanthi-style architecture is also a visual pleasure. The shrine to Lord Shiva is located in the temple's main sanctuary. The Shivratri Festival would be the ideal time to visit as this is when one can see the temple in all of its splendour. There is a waterfall close to the temple that is frequently crowded with tourists having picnics.

Food

Karjat is a melting pot of cultures, and its cuisine reflects this diversity. The city is home to a variety of restaurants serving everything from traditional Marathi food to international cuisine. The predominant cuisine in this area is Maharashtrian, with influences from South and North Indian cuisines.

Celebration

The Firefly Festival in Karjat is a popular annual event that attracts visitors from all over India. The festival takes place in the month of June, when the fireflies are at their most active. The festival is held at Kothaligad Fort, a hill fort located about 15 kilometers from Karjat. The fort is surrounded by lush green forests, which are home to a large population of fireflies. During the festival, visitors can take a guided tour of the fort and then enjoy the spectacle of thousands of fireflies lighting up the night sky. The fireflies are attracted to the fort's moist and humid environment. They are also attracted to the light from the fort's lamps, which makes them even more visible.
